My wheel has started making a squeaking/grinding noise. How do I fix it?Updated 2 months ago

Most likely, the bearings of one or more of your inline wheels has gotten dirty or is wearing out. Bearings will usually last at least a few years with regular use of the wheel; hard or frequent use by multiple cats, or using the wheel in a more hostile environment (i.e. outside in a desert or salty ocean climate, or around cats that often spray the wheel) can shorten the lifespan of the bearings. To see if the bearings are in need of replacing, first try cleaning them out.

To do this, wipe the bearings clean of any dust, fur, or other grit and apply WD-40 to the sidewalls of the bearing. If this eliminates the squeaking or grinding noise, then follow up by lubricating the bearings with speed cream or another lubricant formulated for skateboard bearings. We do not recommend using WD-40 only, since it works well for cleaning the bearing but will not provide adequate lubrication over time.

If you've wiped down the bearings and applied WD-40 but the inline wheels are still grinding, then the bearing is wearing out and needs to be replaced. While we don't carry the bearings by themselves, our Gen 1-6 inline wheels use standard ones that can be easily purchased from a local skate shop or Amazon.com. You'll want 608ZZ bearings, and while we use the ABEC-7 kind, ABEC-5 and ABEC-9 rated ones will work just fine as well. Each wheel needs two bearings to function and we recommend swapping out all bearings if one has started to wear out (since the others will probably follow shortly), so you'll need eight in total.

Please note that for Gen 7 wheels, the bearings in your inline wheels are customized to work with our base and you will not be able to find replacements in a third-party store. You can call us at 844-335-8858 to see if we have any extra Gen 7 bearings available for sale, or you can purchase a new set of inline wheels, which come with bearings already installed.
