If your cat doesn't like the bed, or if you prefer to set the bed up somewhere else, you can absolutely detach it from the tower. The Giant Scratching Tower kit comes with all the hardware needed to either assemble the two components together into the tower, or use them separately as a giant scratching post and separate cat bed.
