Are there any alternate pad material options?Updated 3 months ago
With our latest Gen (Gen 7), we've introduced a new type of traction pad offering (felt) in addition to our standard EVA foam pads. The felt is a good compromise between function and durability—while it doesn't have as much cushioning as the EVA foam, the textured surface provides ample grip for traction, and it holds up against cat claws better than the EVA foam. Since the felt does not contain any woven loops, it is just as safe to use as EVA foam, with no danger of snagging or trapping your cat's claws.
Some customers have requested carpet-style pads, but we cannot offer or recommend this material for traction pads. Cat’s claws can easily get stuck in carpet, which means there would be a danger of the cat getting stuck on the wheel while it is in motion. This could potentially lead to injury, including broken claws, wrenched toes, or a twisted shoulder/back. Sisal can also have the same issue. If you find that the foam pads are wearing down too quickly, we recommend switching to felt rather than trying to DIY pads from a material like carpet or sisal.
